Senior Oracle Database Administrator

In a team-oriented environment under the direction of the Manager of E-business solutions, you will be integral to our development and support team to provide database administration expertise at a senior level. You will be a key participant in the implementation of systems applications that satisfy stakeholders’ requirements and make the best use of the Oracle tools and applications.
You will apply disciplined software Engineering practices in the development, implementation, integration, and maintenance of our Portal development. You will participate in various stages of the software development lifecycle to ensure effective delivery and support of Oracle-based applications. Your responsibilities will include:
• Participate in the design and creation of the optimum database infrastructure for development, test, and production to include database infrastructure backup and recovery plan.
• Provide schema management for objects such as tables, views, and indexes.
• Ensure database standards are met.
• Maintain day-to-day operation of all application databases.
• Plan, install, and upgrade binary and instances.
• Prepare application capacity/storage capacity projection.
• Design and create PL/SQL code for required application logic.
• Troubleshoot database and SQL issues.
• Enroll users and maintain system security
• Perform monitoring and fine-tuning.
• Implementing source code control for database object creation.
• Support and develop Oracle-based applications.
• Install, create and maintain Oracle infrastructure. This includes the database, application server, accounts, schemas, security, data migration, grid control, SSL certificates, backup & restore scripts, patches and review of logs.
• Liaise with Hosting service providers and follow-up with regular maintenance procedures, open tickets and resolve on-going support issues.
• Implement configuration management practices for release procedures.
• Detailed documentation of analysis, design, test plan and release management, as well as database dictionary and scripts.
• Provide daily technical user support for applications including the diagnosing and solving of technical issues and providing regular data maintenance
• Load test application and infrastructure and implement solution to provide acceptable response to end users.
• Installation of new software: Install new versions of Oracle software, application software, and other software related to database administration.
• Configuration of hardware and software with the system administrator: Work closely with the system administrator to perform software installations, and to configure hardware and software so that it functions optimally with the Oracle infrastructure.
• Security administration: Monitor and administer Oracle security components. This involves adding and removing users, administering quotas, auditing, and checking for security problems.
• Data analysis: Analyze the data stored in the database and to make recommendations relating to performance and efficiency of that data storage. Provide advice and solutions to have effective use of indexes, enabling “Parallel Query” execution, or other Oracle specific features.
• Database design: Involved at the preliminary database-design stages and point out potential problems, and help the development team with special performance considerations.
• Data modeling, database optimization, understanding and implementation of schemas, and the ability to interpret and write complex PL/SQL queries.
• Proactively monitor systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints
• Establish standards and best practices for PL/SQL
• Create and maintain Change Management and Database Support documentation
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; five (5) years of directly related experience in Oracle database management to include the following areas: Backup and Recovery, Data Modelling, Web Deployment, Performance Tuning, Data Analysis, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Database 10g, Oracle Application Server 10g, Oracle Portal 10g, Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g, Oracle Grid Control, Oracle Portal Transport Sets, Procedure Language / Structure Query Language (PL/SQL), Perl and shell scripting, as well as Linux. Oracle E-Business Suite experience and/or Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) would be an asset
