Writing Support Specialist
The Documentation Services team has an immediate opening for a Writing Support Specialist (not a Technical Writer position). You will join a team that develops and enhances tools and procedures for documentation production, and that accurately distributes the completed documents to product builds. You will at times perform quality control passes on documentation deliverables—the knowledge gained from this experience will help you give support to writers and further enhance tools and procedures.
At Cognos, Documentation Services is regarded as an integral and contributing member of the product development team. You will become a trusted contact to other Writing Support Specialists, writers, localization specialists, developers, and build teams.
 The Challenge
o         Thrive in a continually changing environment where new requirements may arise even in the late stages of a product release cycle.
o         Help the team develop tools and automation scripts that will assist documentation development and production.
o         Give technical support to writers upon request and also by developing process documentation and training sessions.
o         Troubleshoot documentation functionality problems for writers, localization specialists, software architects, developers, and build teams. Foster excellent relationships with all.
o         Perform quality control passes on documentation deliverables (you will check functionality, not content).
o         Maintain and administer a multi-server environment.
o         Support source control databases for the writing teams.  Your Expertise
o         1-2 years programming experience.
o         Experience with one or more of the following: C, perl, JavaScript, VB.
o         Experience with XML and XSL.
o         Knowledge of XSL:FO is valuable.
o         Windows operating systems experience: XP, Server 2003.
o         Knowledge of UNIX operating systems and commands is valuable.
o         Experience with Perforce automation is valuable.
o         Experience with one or more of the following environments is valuable: customer support, education/training, information services & technology.
