Job description
The Software Maintenance and Support Group are looking for a Software Developer to help support and maintain existing releases of Cognos Business Intelligence products. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of C++, Java, network programming, web technologies and a variety of operating systems. We are looking for a dynamic individual who possesses excellent communications skills and is able to work effectively with other R&D groups, our Customer Support Group and directly with customers. The work is fast paced and interrupt driven. Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment are a must.
The Challenge
• Fix Software defects in released Cognos Business Intelligence products (Cognos 8)
• Investigate and resolve difficult issues, especially in the areas of scalability, threading and portability
• Support existing releases of Cognos BI Products and assist with development of new releases
• Investigate/diagnose customer emergencies; formulate workarounds
• Respond to requests for information on product architecture, design and behavior from Customer Support
• Design, implement and unit test code to enhance existing features or extend functionality of Cognos Business Intelligence products
• Participate in product testing
• Provide guidance to other members of the team
• Act as a technical resource for internal and external sources
Your Expertise
• C++
• Java
• UNIX (experience with at least one of AIX, HPUX, Linux, Solaris)
• Microsoft Windows
• Exceptional problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Databases (experience with at least one of MSSQL, Oracle, DB2)
• Ability to schedule tasks and deliver on time
Assets:
• Java Application Servers
• OOA/D
• XML, XSLT, SOAP
• Large-scale Software development experience
• Expertise with multi-threaded server applications
• Web Servers (IIS, Apache, Netscape)
• Broad knowledge of development tools
• Systems programming (IPC, memory mapping, signals, events)
• Network programming (TCP/IP and sockets)
• OLAP
• LDAP
• SQL
Required
Bachelor's Degree
At least 6 months experience in C++
At least 6 months experience in Java
English: Intermediate
